SST manufactures a variety of Forensic LED Flashlights and Penlights. Our interchangeable and replaceable LED heads (with wavelengths in the UV, Visible, and IR spectrum) make it easy to assemble a forensics package with the exact forensic lights you need.
All of SST’s Forensic Lights are extremely sturdy and impact resistant. Our penlights are made with a rugged aluminum housing, and our Turbo and Eagle model light housings are machined with higher-grade anodized aluminum.
All of SST’s Forensic Lights are also resistant to dust and moisture. They are made using rubber o-rings that create water-tight seals. The lights are water-resistant and can be used in wet environments (such as outdoors in the rain).
All of SST’s Flashlights and Penlights come with a limited lifetime warranty. Our rechargeable batteries and chargers come with a one-year warranty.
Pictured above are SST’s forensic viewing glasses that are available in amber, orange, and clear. Amber and orange are used to filter out blue wavelength light; clear is used to filter out UV wavelength light.
SST’s Basic Forensic Light Models
SST’s Slim and Slim Jr. model penlights come with a push button “click” switch at the far end. The click switch may be fully pressed to turn the light permanently on and off, or it may be only slightly pressed to momentarily turn the light on until the pressure is released.
SST’s (Rechargeable* Li-ion battery powered) Turbo Model Forensic light has a side push-button “click” switch and a tail (“twist” or “click”) switch. The tail switch is used to change the light setting from off to high-power. The side button switch changes the light setting to low-power (for battery conservation). Note that the side button works whether the light setting is on high-power or off.
SST’s (CR123 battery powered) Turbo Model Forensic light also has a side push-button “click” switch and a tail (“twist” or “click”) switch. The light works the same as the rechargeable model, except that the tail switch must be in the “on” position in order to use the side switch (to change the light setting from high-power to low-power).
SST’s Eagle Model (Rechargeable* Li-ion battery powered) Forensic light has only one power setting and is turned on and off using a side push-button “click” switch.
SST’s Multi-head Turbo Flashlight allows three different 3-Watt Slim LED heads to be installed at the same time. Three side push-button “click” switches allow each LED head to be switched on or off as desired. It is also possible to turn on any combination of two heads or all three LED heads simultaneously!
*All of SST’s rechargeable flashlights have a built-in charging port that allows the light to be recharged without having to remove the battery. The port works with either an AC wall charger (that operates from 100-240 volts) or a DC car charger that plugs into any automobile cigarette lighter. SST’s 3.7V Li-ion rechargeable batteries have a protection circuit to guard against voltage that is too low or too high. SST’s single-cell batteries can be fully charged in 3 hours.
Pictured at left are various LED heads for SST’s penlights and flashlights. Shown (from left to right) are the 3-Watt Slim LED, 4-Watt Turbo LED, 4-Watt Eagle LED, and 8-Watt LED. Note that any of these LED heads can be used with any of SST’s Slim, Turbo, and Eagle Model Forensic Lights.
All of SST’s colored 3-Watt Slim LED heads can be made with either a flat or convex lens (a convex lens emits a smoother and more uniform light). Extra optional diffusing lenses that create a smoother and more uniform beam of light are also available for SST’s 4-Watt Turbo LED, 4-Watt Eagle LED, and 8-Watt LED heads.

Forensic Light Applications
While forensic lights are used for a variety of applications, different color (wavelength) lights have different ideal uses. SST makes the following wavelength forensic lights:
White Light (400 to 700 nm spectrum)
* General illumination and inspection
Blue Light (455 & 465 nm)
* Detection of gunshot residue
* Examination of documents, stamps, and artwork
* Examination of bodily fluids, hair, bones, and teeth
* Examination of treated (powdered) fingerprints and latent prints
UV Light (365 and 395 nm)
* Examination of drug residues
* Examination of documents, stamps, and artwork
* Examination of bodily fluids, hair, and blood
* Examination of body bruising, bite marks, and pattern wounds
* Examination of treated (powdered) fingerprints and latent prints
Green Light (505 nm and 525 nm)
* Detection of gunshot residue
* Examination of bones and teeth
* Examination of both treated and untreated fingerprints
Orange Light (590 nm)
* Examination and searching for objects on highly fluorescent backgrounds
Red Light (625 nm)
* Examination of hair
* Examination of documents
Infrared IR Light (850 and 940 nm)
* Used to enhance night vision systems
* Used with cameras with highly sensitive infrared capabilities
* 940 nm is typically used only with a highly sensitive nighttime camera
* 940 nm light is nearly invisible to the eye and may be required for top-security military operations, etc.
